Last month Maggie shared with the world that our Nepali community was facing a humanitarian crisis as nearly 500,000 migrants rushed across the India-Nepal border in an effort to return home to their villages after losing their jobs amidst the COVID-19 lockdown and outbreak. Our team immediately jumped into action— providing food, water, and basic necessities to our Nepali brothers and sisters. Your response to our calls for support was nothing short of overwhelming. We're saddened to hear about the news story from western Nepal of yet another tragedy as a result of chhaupadi. When this practice is followed, women and girls must sleep in a hut outside their family home while menstruating because they are considered to be unclean.
