Serving Our Community in Lockdown

I grew up in a rough community. Gang violence, drug abuse, alcohol addiction– I have seen it all first-hand, and all of its ugly consequences. It has killed many of my friends and the people I know. Even those who survived are in a bad spot. For as long as I remember, I have always wanted to do something about it. That was the main motivation behind deciding to become a social worker.

The Future Frontline

"Just recently, two elderly neighbors sought my help. They were in so much panic and wanted to know the proper way to wear face masks. I helped them with a demonstration and tried my best to calm their fears. I told them the best we can do now is to be responsible by taking precautionary measures – wash our hands, stay at home, and maintain physical distance from other people."

Chhaupadi and Change

We're saddened to hear about the news story from western Nepal of yet another tragedy as a result of chhaupadi. When this practice is followed, women and girls must sleep in a hut outside their family home while menstruating because they are considered to be unclean.

Remembering Manisha

Six years ago this month, we lost a student to suicide. She was strong, kind and compassionate, had a beautiful smile and was quick to laugh. She always got involved in school activities, was a great dancer, loved music and performed on stage with grace and poise.
