Mr. Bhakta Khadka, our Math teacher, is known for his dedication and selfless personality. Mr. Khadka received a prestigious  award by the Nepal Scouts with the medal for his contribution made during the COVID-19 emergency. “The award is not just won by me, it’s the award won by the whole Kopila team,” he says. “As soon as the pandemic hit, the whole team geared up and distributed daily supplies and basic needs. It was also very necessary that our students and their family be looked after at such a crucial time. Although we weren’t expecting any kind of recognition, it is a great reminder to our children that any selfless work you do, it is recognized and appreciated.”

Bhakta has been a teacher at Kopila Valley School since 2012. Before that, he was a student who had freshly finished his +2 in Education and was looking for a job. He came to teach students here because, from a distance and from what he heard, Kopila Valley is unique and the best school for children who would otherwise not have a chance at education. During his many years in Kopila Valley, he has jumped fully into the life of the school.

Bhakta, who always had a sense of social work, has indulged himself in Nepal Scouts. “It hasn’t been that long since we registered ourselves to Nepal Scouts. If I remember correctly, it was before COVID-19, but we are involved in it fully now more than ever.” There are 32 members, 16 girls and 16 boys in the Scouts from Kopila Valley School. Every Friday, they meet up and learn new things under the supervision of Bhakta and Nepal Scouts. But when their support and need arises, you will see them lending a helping hand.

“What do I hope my students will achieve from their participation in Scout? Everything we do is a part of our daily life rituals, so I hope they learn discipline, accountability, and they feel matured. This is their one contribution to their student life that will open many doors for them. Sujan and Bandana won the essay writing competition, whereas Asmita, Sunita Bhawana, and Nishal secured the 3rd position in the quiz contest and won the consolation prize, organized by Nepal Scout on the occasion of 72nd Scout Establishment Day. Members of Scouts are called a Troop, and indeed they are. They are a  Troop of amazement and miracle. When they win in life, I also win in life.” - Bhakta Khadka, Kopila Valley Math teacher.
