Girls Club Leads Event to Highlight 16 Days of Gender Activism

In a powerful display of unity and activism, the Girls' Club at Kopila Valley School orchestrated a profound event focused on the UN 16 Days of Gender Activism last month. With the compelling theme "UNITE! Invest to prevent violence with women and girls," the school came alive with passion and purpose. Aanchal Dutt Chaulagain and the Kopila Health and Wellness Team provided support and advice.
The event kicked off with a mesmerizing assembly where the Girls' Club led the entire school in a chant of "LET US UNITE," setting the tone for an extraordinary day. Grade 6 boys and girls joined hands on stage, presenting a heartfelt poem titled "HARMONY FOR EQUALITY," emphasizing the importance of unity in the pursuit of gender equality.
The Girls' Club ingeniously introduced a game called "Just one step" for staff and teachers, evolving from light-hearted questions to deeper inquiries about financial equality, sending a strong message about the need for economic empowerment.
The event unfolded in five compelling zones, each addressing critical facets of gender equality. The Computer Lab, Zone No. 1, became a Digital Engagement Zone, igniting debates and laughter through a survey that delved into intimate questions about personal choices, challenging societal norms.
On the Futsal Ground, Zone No. 2 emerged as the Facts and Figures Zone, intertwining beautiful paintings by grades 6 to 9 students with stark data on gender violence, sparking shock and profound discussions among the children.
In the Learning Lab, Zone No. 3 transformed into a Student-Generated Content Zone, showcasing the profound perspectives of young minds through poignant writings and art pieces. The depth and thoughtfulness exhibited by students across grades 6 to 12 left a lasting impression.
Feel Good Zone, Zone No. 4, illuminated the legal landscape with a captivating presentation on Nepal's constitutional changes, coupled with engaging games promoting the power of unity. Smiles and excitement radiated from students as they left, armed with newfound knowledge.
Zone No. 5, the Solution Zone/Call to Action Zone/Photobooth Zone, allowed students to contribute physically by signing banners with powerful messages and participating in a symbolic call to action, leaving an indelible mark of commitment to gender equality.
The students and staff committed to the oath “I will not do violence, start to speak up against violence, I will report violence.”
The culminating Speaker Series Session, featuring Mrs. Anita Gyawali, Women's Development Officer of Karnali Province, was a beacon of inspiration. Her simplicity and perfect examples illuminated the intricacies of different types of violence. Graduates of the Kopila Valley Women's Center joined for this part of the day also.
The session concluded with a symbolic promise to "Always Stand With Gender Equality," sealed with signatures on a banner, accompanied by the joyous celebration of the universally loved snack, SAMOSA. This event not only raised awareness but also left an enduring imprint on hearts, fostering a community committed to unity and equality.
