I’ve spent the past few months going into schools in the area and talking to children and young people about the work I’ve been doing, my journey over the past few years, and what I’ve learned from it. I’ve been to high schools talking to students about gap years and the importance of world travel and to middle schools talking about what it means to help others.

Ever heard of the book/movie “The Power of One?” Well, I believe in the power of women! Someone needs to write another book. I’ve been doing A LOT of reading on poverty alleviation and reduction in the third world. All of the brilliant economists who write on poverty say the same things. Invest in WOMEN!! When a woman is given aid money, or a micro-loan, she wants to start a business for herself.

Just when you least expect it, AMAZING things happen. I dream of kids with thick healthy black hair, healthy skin, and super boosted immune systems. So you just never know, do you?

I told everyone my new dream, and what I hoped to do. I’ll never forget it, Margaret stood up immediately, emptied her pockets into my hands and said, “Here, take this for the new home.” I screamed out in excitement, “My first donation!”

It was so amazing to finally get a chance to see the place that has made such an incredible impact on my life and to meet the people behind it all.
