Cousins… Kind Of

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

A while back my Uncle Ed told me about a distant cousin of mine from Seattle who was interested in coming to Nepal. Uncle Ed's wife (my Aunt Lorraine's) little sister is Julia's step-mom. Did you catch that? When he first told me I was kind of just like, "ehhh what?" I still didn't even understand how Julia and I were related until she got here.

But then it was love at first sight. We are so similar it's a little strange. We have the same random likes, dislikes, pet peeves and a very similar sense of humor. We giggled all the time. Having Julia here for the past 4 months has been nothing but joy, laughs, and smiles. She's really positive and easy to be around and talk to and she always knew what I needed somehow. Like when to grab N change his diaper and rock him to sleep.  Or take on little projects that were dragging on. I'm bad at little projects and Julia is ACES with them. She knew when I needed to talk or just be listened to. And when I needed to get out of the house she'd make sure to give me that push. I love this cousin of mine and am missing her terribly. The kids have gotten better over the years about watching visitors, volunteers, family and the like come and go. For me, it just gets harder and harder.  I know I'll see her again soon and we'll have many more good times to share. I just wanted to tell you all how, cousins or not, you never know when someone special is going to come into your life.  So much to be grateful for :)
