I can’t find my poster child, Hima, the little girl that I always talk about. When I looked into her eyes, I would tell myself, “one day I’m going to cross this riverbed and not one child will be here breaking stone.” My guess is that her family moved when the monsoon came and the river flooded. Please say a prayer that I find Hima. It’s time for her to go to school.

Traveling to Katmandu, a stranger was so helpful and kind. I definitely wouldn't have made it if it weren't for this Nepali woman who was sitting next to me. I really wouldn’t have. She stayed with me every time we got off the bus and wrapped her shawl around me when I started shivering to shield me from the wind coming through the window.

I'm here and finally in touch with the world again. The house is so wonderful. It feels strange in a way to actually be standing in it. I haven’t been able to stop walking up and down the hallway peering into each room and touching the walls.

Last year 5 of my closest girlfriends and I started a new tradition. Now that we are all so far from one another and hardly get to catch up, we started an e-mail chain. At the end of every week, we write a short synopsis of anything exciting that happened. One of the mandatory categories is that each of us chooses a "song of the week."
