Gisteren kregen we de mogelijkheid om met een aantal kinderen van de Kopila Valley School rijst te planten. Een geweldige ervaring. Niet alleen voor mij als outsider, maar ook voor de kinderen die hier al hun hele leven wonen. En alhoewel sommige scholieren al eens eerder hadden meegeholpen met het planten van rijst, waren er ook velen die dit nog nooit eerder hadden gedaan, wat het tot een unieke en memorabele dag maakte. Ik zal nooit meer hetzelfde naar rijst kijken.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to go rice planting with the children of Kopila Valley School. It was an incredible experience, not only for me as an outsider, but also for the children that have been living here their whole lives. While some of the students had participated in rice-planting before, many more hadn’t, making for a unique and memorable day. I will never look at rice the same again!

One of the remarkable things about our new campus is the ingenious way it will reduce waste. For example, take a look at these two tanks. One will harvest grey water (sink and shower water) and another will collect black water (bathroom waste). Rainwater will also be collected (the tale of three tanks doesn’t sound as catchy...) in a HUGE tank, where it will then be treated and used for drinking, cooking, and washing hands.
