28: Here We Go

On my birthday I slept in until 8:30. I woke up to flowers, hot coffee, and a fresh bowl of fruit. I had my favorite kind of morning: cleaning my room, listening to my favorite tunes, and playing with my kids. For whatever reason this was an emotional birthday for me. I burst into tears once in the office with Tope, our accountant, and board advisor for no reason at all. Just one of those moments of "I can’t believe all this!" Then I cried with Bhakta, sitting there in our living room talking about his toe and how much I love him. Then I cried during satsung when Kelly gave me a picture of Father Jack and all the family photos of my children since 2008.

Please feel free to join us, and just wait until you see Ravi’s Halloween costume.

Keeping It Real

Our kitchen is infested with cockroaches. I caught them when I went down in the kitchen for a midnight snack last night and woke up this morning on a mission. Go away bugs! I swear they are worse than ever right now. I generally don’t believe in killing living creatures but I make exceptions for the following: cockroaches that infest our kitchen, mosquitoes, lice, and scorpions that bite my children.

International Day of the Girl 2014

We had an awesome International Day of the Girl celebration last Friday! The Day of the Girl was started in 2012 "to raise awareness about all issues concerning gender inequality around the world. It’s a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere…We want ourselves, and girls everywhere, to be seen as equals, in the eyes of others and in our own eyes."

Once the Storm is Over

People have told me time and time again that age 27 to 28 are years for lots of change and learning. I'm almost 28 and I have to say so far everyone has been pretty spot on. One thing about crisis is that it makes you learn a lot about yourself. I, for one, turned to Coca Cola drinking, nail biting, and cursing. I've been thinking and reflecting a lot. It's taken me a while to find the calm after the storm, the light at the end of the tunnel, and my way back to normal, but I'm starting to feel like I'm almost there.
