By Maggie Doyne, CEO and Co-Founder

I am so excited to announce, with much pride and enthusiasm, that we've welcomed John Estrella to the BlinkNow team in a new role as Executive Director! And before you start wondering, let me be the first to assure you, I’m not going anywhere. My passion for our work continues to run deep. I’m in this for the long haul and will remain in my current role as Co-Founder and CEO. John will fill a crucial role to help lighten my workload, taking on a lot of the management and oversight responsibilities and reporting directly to me.

My left hand!

I often think back to that young girl with a backpack setting off to travel the world, having no idea what lay ahead.  We’ve accomplished so much since then — that was over 11 years ago! I’m so grateful and excited for this next stage of our growth. As we look to our second decade, we have so many plans and dreams -- our children are getting older, new children are continuing to come in, and our list of everything more we want to do is growing. The BlinkNow board, our team, and I have worked hard to develop a set of strategic goals for the next 10 years. The addition of John to the leadership team will allow us to leverage his experience to accomplish our ambitious initiatives.

In addition to leading the 10-year strategic planning project, John will also be responsible for overseeing all of BlinkNow’s operations including, development, finance, communications, and marketing.

John is excited and passionate about the BlinkNow mission and is committed to strengthening our organization and ensuring our long-term sustainability and impact. The board and I are confident he will bring us the organizational oversight and strategy needed to bring us to the next level.

Selfie time.

Before joining us at BlinkNow, John spent many years as COO of Radio Free Asia (RFA). There he was responsible for identifying and prioritizing ways to achieve the organizational mission, as well as planning, implementation strategy, advising on strategic budgeting issues, and evaluating and recommending changes in organizational operations.  Prior to joining RFA, John served as Deputy Director of Public Policy at People for the American Way, where he led efforts on constitutional liberties legislation, human rights issues, and immigrants' rights issues. John has also worked at the American Immigration Lawyers Association on asylum issues and comprehensive immigration reform for young children and students. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business, with a certificate in Pacific Rim studies, from the University of San Francisco. He also earned a Juris Doctor degree from the College of William & Mary School of Law. John and his wife Debbie live in Falls Church, Virginia with their twin sons and two cats.

We are so excited about the experience and leadership skills he brings to our organization. Please join me in welcoming John to our BlinkNow family!
