Kopila in Photos

This summer, we welcomed photographer Molly Haley to Kopila Valley. She took some amazing photos of our programs and the people we serve, and we wanted to share a few of our favorites with you. Check out our Facebook or Instagram page for more of her posts!

Hi, everyone! My name is Molly Haley and I am an American photojournalist based in Portland, Maine. I’m honored to be here in Nepal working with BlinkNow to create new photographs that tell the stories of Kopila Valley & its incredible people. I hope you’ll follow along as I share imagery from my visit over the course of these next few weeks.

Hard at work

To start, here is a portrait of one of the current members in the Women Center’s weaving & empowerment program. She joins a group of over 120 local women before her who have participated in this six-month training program that provides vocational skills & education in topics such as human rights, health, and self-confidence

The women who keep the wheels turning!

So much respect for this powerhouse group of Aunties who so lovingly devote themselves to their work here at Kopila.

Sibling love

One of the most beautiful things about the Kopila Valley Children’s Home is how the kids care for each other.

Beautiful woman

After spending the day photographing the students and teachers at Kopila Valley School, I passed by the main office & met this wonderful woman. She was waiting to pick up her great-grandson at the end of his day in kindergarten. She saw my camera & asked if I would take her portrait. I was honored to.

Community and friendship

The incredible artisans of the Women's Center.

We. Love. Dancing.

Satsang is a special tradition at the Kopila Valley Children’s Home. It’s one of the rare times that all of the kids are in one room together - to reflect on the day, to sing, and to dance. On this particular evening, it was a goodbye satsang for a sibling who was leaving the next morning for the United States to begin college.

Sweetest smile

It's the people and their stories that stay with you after a visit to Kopila. It is a place of connection, kindness, strong will, empowerment, & transformation.

Thanks so much for following along these past few weeks as I've shared portraits & moments from the Children's Home, Kopila Valley School, the Women's Center, and the new campus. It was such an honor to work with BlinkNow to create new photographs that shine a light on the people that make Kopila Valley the special place that it is.
