The workshop at Abari’s Learning Center was amazing. I’ve never seen our kids so involved and interested! They were given challenges to make their own rammed earth blocks using very basic materials and then design their own model homes using whatever materials they could find around the property. It blew our minds what they were able to come up with. Throughout the workshop, they gained a great understanding of the rammed-earth construction process, which allowed us to jump right into the second phase of our trip.

This past Friday the Kopila Valley 10th graders embarked on an 11-day field trip to the Kathmandu Valley to assist with earthquake recovery efforts and explore the surrounding areas. For many of them, this is their first time visiting Kathmandu. Our Director of Sustainability, Jamie MacDonald, has been sending updates from the field. Yesterday he let us know that 10th graders are having the time of their lives!

Last week something really exciting happened. I took two of the girls, Nisha (my oldest) and Kabita (one of our 5th grade students at school) on a trip to Kathmandu. We had lots of paperwork with us; power of attorney letters, folders full of documents, bank statements, doctor's notes and their passports.

I want to take a moment on this blog today to say I am so incredibly thankful for the support that’s come in these last few months to make running Kopila Valley Home and School possible. There are definitely moments when I get worried about how we can sustain all of this and keep growing and expanding and you all constantly show up to cheer us on.

I just walked through the door from Kathmandu. I have so much to post about!!! 1) Yesterday was my mom's and my oldest daughter Nisha's birthday! 2) Today is Valentine's day. 3) Cousin Julia is back home safe in Seattle and we had a nice little weekend together although it was sad saying goodbye. We took a million pictures that I want to post. N and T and Big N came too and we had so much fun. We spent the weekend seeing all the sites of Kathmandu. I feel like I could be a tour guide by now.
