Kopila Valley School

We know that education gives kids the power to shape their own futures. That’s why BlinkNow’s Kopila Valley School provides a free, high quality education to over 400 students. With classes in both English and Nepali, our teachers and support staff are making sure that the kids at Kopila Valley have access to the knowledge and resources they need to succeed. And they’re doing it all in Nepal’s greenest school!

The Difference Education Can Make

In the years after Nepal’s civil war ended, there’s been remarkable economic growth in the country. But limited access to education still presents an enormous challenge for far too many people. Nepal’s adult literacy rate in Nepal is still just 60%, and nearly 30% of kids who in enroll in school drop out before 8th grade.

In Nepal’s remote villages, where resources are often scarce, the challenges can be even more dramatic.

Access to high-quality education can be transformative. Not only does it equip children with the academic tools they need to participate in Nepal’s increasingly globalized economy, education also delivers an array of other benefits, especially for young women. Girls with more education tend to get married later, which promotes gender equality and helps delay the age of marriage, which reduces the rates of HIV, maternal death, and suicide.

LEARNING FOR LIFE

At Kopila Valley School, we are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters mutual respect, teamwork, deep learning, and boundless creativity. And we’re always focused on our core values of gender equality, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability!

Our gates open bright and early at 7:00 in the morning and don’t close until 6:00 in the evening. The program offers a diverse curriculum – math, science, Nepali, English, social studies, computers – for nursery through 12th grade. Kopila Valley School is currently ranked one of the top schools in the region, setting a precedent for the quality of education provided to children in rural Nepal.

Our students are at their best when their creative energies are stoked. They thrive at science fairs and theater performances, art month and poetry slams. They love dancing and moving, reading and learning. Kopila Valley School focuses on Montessori methods over teaching to a test. We’re focused on helping students become doers – and future leaders.

The Greenest School in Nepal

When BlinkNow saw that it was time to build a new campus, we realized it was a unique chance to put our values into physical form. That’s why we assembled a passionate team of innovative thinkers to design and build a school that wouldn’t just provide a place for students to study and learn--it would be a model for the way we can all take care of our environment! From a solar powered cooking system to rainwater recycling to rammed earth walls that cut down on heating costs, every aspect of our new campus makes it clear that we’re leading the way on environmental sustainability.

MORE THAN A SCHOOL

Kopila Valley School is a place to learn… but it's also so much more than that! The vast majority of kids at Kopila Valley have faced serious challenges—from health issues, to unstable home lives to lack of access to basic educational opportunities. That's why it's so important Kopila Valley School also provides a place where students can enjoy a nutritious meal, have access to basic medical and dental care, and take part in after-school activities like sports, music and dance, crafts and cooking classes. The campus includes a Mental Health and Counseling Center, the Kopila Valley Health Clinic, tutoring room, computer lab, stage, and a small library. We provide school uniforms and books for each student. Our new campus  isn't just a great place to learn and grow--it's the greenest school in Nepal!

During school hours, you will see our students taking pride in everything they do. They line up for class. They wash their faces and brush their teeth. They sit quietly for meetings. All of our students study English in addition to Nepali, which can be a huge advantage as they pursue their goals later in life. But the goal of our school is not just literacy and learning facts. It’s about shining a light on each student’s potential and inspiring a belief that they can lead a better life.
