Kathmandu Help Needed

Thursday, January 12, 2017

January 10:

I need urgent advice on the best lung or pulmonary specialist in Kathmandu. We have a patient on the way from Surkhet. Young 25 year old mother of three with very little time left. Need all the help we can get right now. Kathmandu community, please help us out.

January 11:

We medevaced the patient yesterday to Nepalgunj, and then to Kathmandu. An ambulance took her to Grande hospital where she is undergoing diagnostic tests while we work to get to the bottom of the problem.

She weighs just 45 pounds and is in an extremely fragile state but seems to be improving with IV treatments. We feel fortunate to have crossed paths with her when we did. She was sent home from the hospital and told she was going to die two days ago without a proper diagnosis.

For a young mother of three children I find that unacceptable.

Thank you all for your suggestions and support. It took a village yesterday to get her out of here and have her survive the journey to Kathmandu. We trust that she is in good hands there. She asked for a last photo with her three kids before we left in the ambulance. Here it is.

UPDATE: Sadly, Kanchi passed away from tuberculosis on January 15 (read more of her story here). Thank you to everyone who reached out with kind words.
