monsoon birthdays!

Yesterday I woke up to the sound of 20 something kids yelling and stampeding down off the roof. It was still pitch black outside and it took me a minute to figure out what was going on. Then I felt a cool breeze (for the first time in weeks) come through my window and smelled a familiar smell... RAIN!!!! Monsoon has officially arrived my friends!!
The kids all carried their blankets and mattresses down and relocated to the playroom. It was four in the morning and they were all wet and hyped up from the excitement of the rain. It took them a few minutes and me yelling "GO BACK TO BED" for them settle back into their slumber. I took one look at all of them laying sprawled across the playroom with their eyes fake shut, turned off the lights and went back to my room. I opened all my windows and doors wide, listened to the rain and the kids whispers and fell back asleep. We've been waiting for the rain to come for these last couple weeks. The temperature cooled down quite a bit, there's a cloud cover protecting us from the strong sun and now everyone can plant their vegetables and rice, harvest some rain water and be happy!
We celebrated yesterday evening with the JUNE birthday party. The kids made 2 cakes in our little easy bake oven entirely by themselves and decorated the kitchen with balloons. We did satsung outside in the gazebo, opened gifts, gave tika, and blew out candles. Look at how big these kids are getting! I am so proud of them. Happy Birthday to Santosh, Sanju, Little Nisha, and Shova!!!
P.S. I forgot it was Father's Day and I didn't even realize it until I read Emily's post about how SHE forgot it was Father's Day! If I had a penny for all the birthdays, and holidays I've totally forgotten about while living in Nepal, I could probably go build another school. ;) Sorry dad.

I think Bishal wanted it to be his birthday too.

Ha Ha, I love all the pictures, especially the top one, they all look fantastic together. I hate to tell Santosh but whatever is in that box has already morphed into something else in Deepak's brain. You know how a helicopter becomes a boat 3 days later. Better hide that gift Santosh. So nice to see Nisha R. so happy and also to see Sushma at the celebration. They are like sisters!! And I still still think Sanju will be a runway model in the future and support the home and school all by herself !!
I always felt little Nisha was a looker but she has now become quite a stunner. Get Vogue on the line and all those other glossies because she would make a great cover. Make enough money to build another school.
Duble dose of self-defense lessons for Little Nisha...Happy Birthday to all 4 equally divided.
Aw - haha! Poor Bishal. It IS hard when it's everyone else's birthday. :(
Bishal! So cute! <3
Birthday wishes to all, but a very special birthday kiss for darling Santosh, who's growing up very nicely.
