a day on the runway

Sagar in the cock-pit

For as long as I've know this kid, he's had a fascination with airplanes and has always said he wants to be a pilot when he grows up.  So Friday afternoon, Orr, Sarah and I took Sagar out for a special afternoon at the airport.  We watched the airplanes and helicopters land and take-off.  These particular planes are used to deliver US AID rice up to remote himalayan districts and the helicopters are from the U.N. World Food Program.  Sagar got to sit in the cock pit, wear the headset and touch the controllers and buttons.    He was the happiest and giddiest I've ever seen him.  Our special thanks to the sweet pilots of Surkhet.  It was surely a day to remember.

Our weekend is going well here, except for the fact that we haven't had any water for the past week.  We usually get water for two hours in the morning and two in the evening.  We've got construction going on and we need all the water we can get right now.  We've just been getting a dribble every now and again that we're using for drinking and cooking.  It's been tough but we hear that the pipes may be repaired tomorrow.  (Keep your fingers crossed for us, ay???)

I came across this while blog reading this weekend and loved it.

“The gift you carry for others is not an attempt to save the world but to fully belong to it. It’s not possible to save the world by trying to save it. You need to find what is genuinely yours to offer the world before you can make it a better place. Discovering your unique gift to bring to your community is your greatest opportunity and challenge. The offering of that gift – your true self – is the most you can do to love and serve the world. And it is all the world needs.”
– from Soulcraft by Bill Plotkin

Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! xo
